Feb, 2021 | By Tony Odey | ||

As part of fruits of his huge contributions to the growth and development of sports in the country over the years, Nigeria Curling Federation (NCF) has appointed Permanent Secretary, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Mr. Olusade Adesola as its patron. President of NCF, Mr. Damola Daniel made the disclosure recently in Abuja when he led a delegation to pay a courtesy visit to the Permanent Secretary in his office.

According to Daniel, the appointment which was unanimously ratified by a resolution of NCF's board, is expected not only to catapult the game of curling to a leading sport both in Nigeria and Africa but also shore up the chances of winning barrage of medals for Nigeria from the sport. Mr. Daniel told the Permanent Secretary that though NCF is still ''very young'', it has taken the world by storm due to its tenacity and resilience resulting in impressive performances.

He restated that NCF has made Nigeria proud as a result of its sterling achievements within a very short while, adding that the body has been accepted by the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC). Dwelling more on the criteria the body considered in choosing Mr. Adesola as its patron, the president said it took the decision based on the Permanent Secretary's profound advice and support which has led to rapid growth and development of the federation. Responding, the Permanent Secretary thanked the federation for the special honour bestowed upon him.

He explained that the game of curling is a monumental task in view of the fact that it a sport done on ice and also to be qualified as a federation, a sports body ''must have your presence established in a number of states''. He therefore, commended Mr. Daniel for his strength of character, doggedness, resilience and commitment to success by not allowing all the challenges associated with the game to deter him from actualizing the dream.

The Nigeria Curling Federation was formed in 2017.It is the controlling body of ice curling, wheelchair, floor curling, table curling and street curling in Nigeria. The meeting was attended by the Acting Secretary, FCTA's Social Development Secretariat, Dr. Kelvin Ike, Auditor General for Area Councils of FCT, Hajia Kudirat Abdul-Hamid, and others.
