With a clear conscience in the administration of the Territory, Minster of State in the Federal Capital Territory Administration, Dr. Ramatu Tijani Aliyu has expressed willingness to be held accountable while discharging her official functions. Dr. Aliyu made the declaration while playing host to a strong delegation of past and present leaders of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council who paid her a courtesy call in her office in Abuja last week.

Responding to a call by the NUJ Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Ogbeche to hold her office accountable whenever the need arose, the Minister of State said "we have enjoyed cooperation so far from the NUJ and in the media now I know FCT is taking centre-stage. We appreciate you and we want much more support from you." "Also just like you said, you should hold us accountable. And in accountability there is no boundary on functions. We will try to discharge our duties with all diligence and we expect you to also project the image of the Federal Capital Territory and protect her integrity. For the image that goes out there is the definition of the Federal Capital Territory we have and that reawakening you said, I know is a collective responsibility" Stated the Minister of State.

The Minister of State while expressing support to the Council in performing her statutory functions said the Union was free to come to her office at any time they felt as they were duty bound in carrying out their tasks. Earlier in his address, the Chairman of NUJ, FCT Council, Comrade Emmanuel Ogbeche said it is expedient that the Minister of State's Office promptly monitors the activities of the Area Councils for the benefits of millions of residents under her watch if the Territory is to realize her potential of becoming Africa's number one city and a top 20 global city.

Comrade Ogbeche expressed the willingness to collaborate with the Minister of State for a Peer Review Mechanism (PRM) for the Area Councils and other critical segments of the administration under her watch 'to engender good governance, accountability and assimilated development'. He said the Council is planning a conference on Nutritional Empowerment of the Rural Woman in FCT as this concerns the health of women and children. He said in order to boost the earnings of his members, the Council is considering going into agricultural investment for her Co-operative Society arm. He appealed for land in the Area Councils to enable the Society to take off in the coming farming Season.

He appreciated the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello for giving the Council's Secretariat a Cosmopolitan look and a grant to furnish the Secretariat. He assured the Minister of the Council's support at all times but cautioned that whenever the need arose the administration will be made to account to the people. Three former Chairmen of the Council, Comrades Amos Dunia, Jacob Edi and Chief Malachi Ezendu accompanied the Chairman and his Executives on the visit.
