Bello lauds Nigerian surveyors' efforts in enhancing security, agriculture

Sept, 2021 | By Anthony Ogunleye | ||

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, has commended surveyors in the country for the professional services they render for the country's development, especially in the areas of security and agriculture.

The Minister made the commendation when he received members of Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON) led by the president, Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Surveyor David Kayode Oluwamotemi on a courtesy visit to FCT Administration (FCTA) last week. In the words of the Minister, “I want to commend you in the appreciation that survey data is now critical in managing national security, as well as keying in and providing the bedrock and foundation for the agricultural policy of the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.”

Bello added: “I am very much aware that your professional colleagues were able to survey farmlands, thereby making them eligible to get a lot of the empowerment and palliative measures that the Federal Government has towards improving agriculture, especially under agencies like the Central Bank of Nigeria and other subsidiary agencies. All these are being done using your professional input, and that is very commendable.”

The Minister also expressed satisfaction with NIS members in the FCTA, urging the institute to continue its programmes towards enhancing professional competence of its members, especially young surveyors. He said: “For the younger ones coming in into the system, I hope the council has a robust training mechanism and system for them to be able to do it, particularly looking to advances in technology and other activities.”

Speaking earlier, Surveyor Oluwamotemi said that the visit was to seek partnership with FCTA to enhance land administration and revenue drive in FCT. Present at the meeting were the Registrar, Surveyors Council of Nigeria, Surveyor Kabir Mohammed Mamman; Permanent Secretary, FCTA, Mr Olusade Adesola; Chief of Staff to FCT Minister, Malam Bashir Mai-Bornu; Acting Executive Secretary, FCDA, Tpl. Zaliha”u Ahmed;g Surveyors General of Koi, Cross River, Adamawa and Borno States, and other senior management staff of FCTA.

News Update

Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed, disclosed these while speaking during the FMFBNP/AfDB SAPZ High-Level virtual discussions last week.

With the support of her principals, Dame Joy Okoro has gradually been solving the many issues that plagued FCT Water Board with the immediate noticeable result being that revenue has shot up apparently for the first time in a while.

In a recent interview with Abuja Digest Weekly's Sennen Udoh, Mr. Ekpenyong, was a journalist's delight to behold as he volunteered consultancy counseling on effective mentoring on education, moral upbringing, and sports/other talents.

The involvement of women in sports in Nigeria in some quarters, particularly in northern Nigeria, is something that is viewed as rather unacceptable but a different ball game in other parts of the country.
