Mar, 2021 | By Segun Kayode and Abubakar Dembo | ||

More ramifications of the Accelerated Area Council Sectional Title Re-Issuance Scheme (AACSTRIS) came to light last week as Director of Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS), Dr. Isa Ibrahim Jalo, revealed that one of its tasks is to process over 30,000 and 10,000 title documents. These documents are for houses in all the mass housing estates as well as multi-dwelling houses, respectively, spread across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by providing them bankable titles in line with global best practices.

Dr Jalo disclosed these while welcoming guests to the landmark ceremony where Minister of FCT, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, commissioned the AACSTRIS project office in Abuja. He added that the AACSTRIS project was further established to process the thousands of backlogs of pending applications for regularization of Area Council land titles from customary to statutory.

Dr. Jalo also disclosed that the Department of Urban and Regional Planning has so far vetted 302 layouts that will immediately be processed into the AGIS database after meeting all requirements. "Out of these, the Department of Land Administration has vetted over 700 titles, which is expected to ease the transformation of the title documents from customary to statutory," he emphasized.
