ARDS develops bee farmers' capacity

The Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat (FCT) of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, (FCTA) has conducted a step-down capacity building workshop for over 45 bee farmers from the 6 Area Councils of the FCT. Addressing participants at the opening of the 3- day programme, the Head of Forestry Division in the Secretariat, Mrs. Caroline Opara stated that the training became imperative following the delivery of modern Bee keeping equipment from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development and the Provision of Bee-keeping equipment by the FCT Administration.

In her words, "The fact remains that there is an increasing demand for honey and as a government body, we owe it to the ever increasing honey consuming population to ensure that they have access to high quality , unadulterated and affordable bee products comparable to the ones imported" The training she added will enhance the capacity of the farmers to produce in large quantities as well as also mitigate the risks associated with collection in farms. In his response at the end of the programme, the Chairman of Grass root bee-keepers association, Mr. Gideon Dagunduro.thanked the FCT Administration under the leadership of Muhammad Musa Bello for sponsoring members of the FCT Bee-Keepers Association to participate in the international Bee-keeping conference held in Abuja 2018 and the donation of starter packs (bee equipment) to bee-keeper.

According to him "That single action by the Minister helped to expose our members to modern methods and through the conference, we have been able to make contacts with foreign companies in the areas of packaging which will enable us compete shoulder to shoulder with our counterparts. new members into the Abuja Bee-Keepers Association. The workshop featured the registration of new members into the association

The Minister said these after a meeting of the FCT Security Committee which comprises heads of the police, military and para-military formations in FCT as well as Area Council Chairmen and religious leaders.

The cheery news is coming as Minister of State, FCT, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu will headline a distinguished galaxy of stakeholders for the FCT pension stakeholders retreat this week.

Finally last week, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) took over managing and operating the newly- completed Nigeria-Korea Model School in Abuja.
