FCT Education Secretariat sensitizes committee on census

As part of its 2019 Education Management Information System (EMIS) activities, the Department of Planning, Policy, Research & Statistics (DPPR&S) under the Education Secretariat has further put together a robust sensitization programme to enlighten the various FCT EMIS committee members on NEMIS and State EMIS activities as well as the need to establish EMIS nodes in all FCT Education Agencies to allow for easy data flow across the various Agencies.

In his welcome address, the Director of the Department, Mallam Sani Mohammed Ladan said the meeting became imperative to ensuring synergy and effective participation of all stakeholders, strengthen and maintain FCT EMIS data management, processes, mobilize the stakeholders for the success of 2018/19 Annual School Census (ASC) Exercise and highlight the challenges encountered during previous ASC Exercises, as well as present the strategies for the conduct of the 2018/19 Exercise.

He said the Department had put in place various strategies to ensure the 2018/19 Annual School Census success to overcome many of the challenges encountered in the past which included lack of public awareness on the relevance of education data, poor cooperation by private school proprietors, limitation of access to facilitate office duties and conduct monitoring of the ASC, inadequate funding of ASC Exercise, inadequate EMIS infrastrucure and management team at the EMIS Nodes among others. Dr. Ladan noted that it was necessary to ensure commitment of key stakeholders in the collection of credible data for sustainable evidence-based planning and for National and Global reporting.

He said the full participation and involvement of all FCT Education Agencies, Area Councils and Local Authority Education Secretaries showed their desire to set productive Agenda and add value to the important Exercise while making it impactful to all. Declaring the event open, the representative of the Director of Administration and Finance, Education Secretariat, Mallam Ahmed Isah Rany, Director, FCT Scholarship Board, said it is about synergy building among all the data collecting Agencies for the purpose of ensuring proper planning in the Education Sector.

He explained that over the years, the data collection process has not been in order hence the need to strategize for more effective result oriented data collection for implementation of Government programmes. Mallam Rany therefore called on all the stakeholders present to ensure compliance to every information needed for proper coordination of the Exercise. In his submission, the Deputy Director in charge of EMIS in the Department, Mr Steve Oyelola said it is heart warming for the Department to set this productive Agenda for the 2018/19 EMIS activities in the process of data collection and documentation.

He observed that,reliable and credible data collection are key to good planning of ensuring Government programmes are successfully carried out. Mr Oyelola stated further that the Department had taken a step further to create the expected awareness through its recent advocacy visits to all FCT Education Secretariat, involvement of ally Area Councils and Local Education Authority, intensive training for enumerators and organising stakeholders meeting for proper coordination among others.

He added that all the enumerators from the various Agencies had been well trained in preparation for the ASC which will commence in September noting that the constraints however is that funds are not released as at when due for the smooth running of the tedious Exercise. which was supposed to have been done since March. He thanked the FCT Administration led by the Honourable Minister for FCT, Mallam Mohammed Musa Bello for his continuous support in ensuring the success of the 2019 ASC Exercise. Also Speaking as a Participant , the representative of the Municipal Chairman, Hon Usman Karishi, Supervisory Council or, AMACon Education said, "Education is the foundation of other developments hence it is the initiative of the FCT Department under the Education Secretariat to engage every stakeholders in the use of computers to collect credible data for proper documentation to make governance easier to administer. He commended the FCT Administration for the developments to move the Administration closer to the People

The Minister said these after a meeting of the FCT Security Committee which comprises heads of the police, military and para-military formations in FCT as well as Area Council Chairmen and religious leaders.

The cheery news is coming as Minister of State, FCT, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu will headline a distinguished galaxy of stakeholders for the FCT pension stakeholders retreat this week.
