Staff of the Federal Capital Development Authority FCDA, Central Stores located at Garki II, by the former Central Bank of Nigeria office, have had cause to smile after renovation works were carried out recently on their once dilapidated office building, making it conducive and comfortable to stay and work.

According to the Director, Department of Facilities Maintenance Management DFMM Engr. Niyi Olaloye, the Federal Capital Territory Administration received an SOS letter from the FCDA requesting the renovation of its central stores which serves as a store office for different items belonging to the Authority, ranging from stationeries, engineering parts and electrical parts and which was forwarded to the department.

Different levels of repairs were carried out during the exercise such as the complete removal of the old roof and rotten timbers, these were replaced with both new and Aluminum long span roofing sheets. Other items replaced include broken window glasses, door locks, light fittings, plumbing and general electrical works. All items changed were replaced with modern fittings giving the structure a modern look.

The DFMM staff who supervised the repair works, Arch. Shuaibu A. Help explained that as at the time they first visited the store, the whole place was a complete mess. The security post was completely renovated with toilet facility, tiles and was painted. In the same vein, the perimeter fence which had fallen and some of its part cracked were rebuilt, reinforced and painted. All toilet facilities in the compound were replaced and tiled. Water was also restored after years of begging residents of the neighborhood for water.

Restoring an old structure is no small task, not only does it require special care, particular attention must be paid to the fixing of broken windows, leaky roof, water infiltrated walls causing stains, old roofing sheets, where there are small leaks that silently wear off the structure, these were all curtailed by DFMM.
