FCT Permanent Secretary urges examination bodies to maintain highest international standards

2nd Sep, 2019 | By Daniel Achiniru | ||

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Permanent Secretary, Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa has called on examination bodies in the country to maintain the highest international standards at all times, saying it is the only way to ensure that their documents are respected and accepted globally as having met all tests of integrity.

Sir Ohaa, who made the call during the opening ceremony of the 37th conference of the Association for Educational Assessment in Africa (AEAA), which was hosted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja last week, said it was equally important to maintain high examination standards due to its pivotal place as the yardstick by which the competence of students could be measured to guarantee advancement.

Noting that the myriad of problems confronting the country today such as corruption, poverty and insecurity could be overcome with good education, the Permanent Secretary urged the organizers of the conference to evolve new ideas to improve the standard of education across the African continent. He further disclosed that the FCT Administration (FCTA), in keying into this objective, has invested heavily in the education sector over the years, saying it is part of the reasons FCT schools have been adjudged among the best public schools in the country.

He commended the organizers of conference for choosing FCT for the auspicious event, saying it underscores the hospitality for which Abuja is famous for. He said FCTA is working assiduously to make the Territory a hub for educational conferences, tourism and excellence. The Permanent Secretary further disclosed that the FCT has grown tremendously with improved and expanded infrastructure from the last time the AEAA conference was held in Abuja in 2010, to the present time, saying it is as a result of the vision of the Federal Government to revitalize the economy of the country and eradicate poverty.

He assured that FCTA will continue to build on its modest achievements in the areas of infrastructure as well as other sectors as health, transportation, agriculture and rural development to build a capital city that will be the pride of the entire Africa.
