Ground rent: AGIS threatens defaulting property owners

May, 2021 | By Felix Durumbah, Segun Kayode and Vicky Agorom | ||

Hard times await property owners in Federal Capital Territory (FCT) who are yet to pay their ground rent to FCT Administration (FCTA) as they stand to lose their prized possession, some worth several millions or billions of Naira. This is because the FCTA will no longer accept a situation where they keep their property and refuse or neglect to pay the statutory ground rent on such.

Already, the Administration has since issued notices to affected property owners to do the needful. Director, Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS), Dr Isa Jalo, disclosed these while speaking exclusively to Abuja Digest Weekly in his office last week. He warned that the Administration would be compelled to enforce the statutes, if defaulting owners continued to be adamant.

Dr Jalo said: ''We have issued notices and are going to commence enforcement very soon. So, do not wait until we start enforcement because by the time we start, you may lose your title and other investments worth millions of naira. ''They must come and make ground rent payment. Our Customer Service is open for them to collect their receipts and make necessary payments.''
