Independence Day: President Buhari assures youths on employment creation

7th Oct, 2019 | By Anthony Ogunleye | ||

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that his Administration will continue to fashion policies designed to ensure employment and security of all citizens, especially the youth. The President, who stated this on Friday at a public lecture titled 'Harnessing potentials of Nigerian Youths in Peace Building and National Development' and special Juma'at prayers to mark Nigeria's 59th year as an independent nation, stressed the need for Nigerian youths to be morally upright, law abiding and good citizens to take up leadership positions.

He warned them to shun all acts of corruption which he maintained was the bane of society. President Buhari said government policies on security, employment and reviving the nation's economy were centred largely on the youth, adding that concerted efforts were being made to improve electricity supply in the country to revive industries and improve the economy. Represented by Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, the President said government would give education the priority it deserves considering its importance in reviving the economy and ensuring security.

The President also stressed the need for closer and stronger family unit which, he said, was essential in building a better society. In his remarks, Chairman of the occasion, Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad SaƔd Abubakar stressed the need to celebrate the youth whenever they excel so that they achieve more. He also advised on proper correction when they err just as he called for prayers for divine guidance for Nigeria's leaders.

Guest lecturer, Imam Tajuddin Adigun harped on the need for concerted efforts to fight corruption, explaining that corruption was one of the factors militating against the development of Nigerian youths. Imam Adigun admonished youths to use their strength for good as, according to him, "a good youth is one who uses his strength for good."
