... Receives new CP, pledges FCTA support for police command

Sept, 2021 | By Anthony Ogunleye | ||

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello has pledged the support of FCT Administration (FCTA) to the FCT Police Command in its task of effectively policing the Territory. The assurance was made during the courtesy visit of the new FCT Commissioner of Police (CP), Sunday Babaji, to FCTA last week.

The Minister congratulated the new CP and expressed delight on his appointment, saying Mr Babaji possessed the relevant professional qualifications having served as a Deputy Commissioner in charge of Operations in the FCT in addition to other important positions across several state police commands in the country. While thanking officers and men of the FCT command for the good work they were doing, he equally called on them to give maximum cooperation to the new CP.

Malam Bello also urged Mr Babaji to work closely with the heads of other security agencies in FCT as was done by his predecessor, Assistant Inspector-General Bala Ciroma. In assuring the Police Commissioner of FCTA's support, Malam Bello revealed that the Administration will assist the command with some operational vehicles to aid its assignments and reminded him that policing the FCT could be challenging as the nature of crime and criminality within the city center could be different from the satellite towns.

Speaking earlier, the new CP said he intended to build on the legacies of his predecessor in fighting crime in FCT which he described as the seat of the Nigerian government and therefore a very sensitive state. Assuring FCT residents on the provision of good quality police service, he equally called for their cooperation, urging them to provide the police with information on suspicious individuals and situations.

The CP also thanked the FCT Minister for providing an enabling environment for synergy amongst the various security agencies in FCT and warned criminal elements in the Territory to leave, repent, or be ready to face the wrath of the law. Also present at the event were the Director, Human Resources Management Department of FCTA, Dr Bashir Mohammed; FCTA Solicitor General, Barrister Yusuf Wodi; Director, Department of Security Services, Mr Adamu Gwary; and senior officers on the entourage of the new CP.

With the support of her principals, Dame Joy Okoro has gradually been solving the many issues that plagued FCT Water Board with the immediate noticeable result being that revenue has shot up apparently for the first time in a while.

In a recent interview with Abuja Digest Weekly's Sennen Udoh, Mr. Ekpenyong, was a journalist's delight to behold as he volunteered consultancy counseling on effective mentoring on education, moral upbringing, and sports/other talents.

The involvement of women in sports in Nigeria in some quarters, particularly in northern Nigeria, is something that is viewed as rather unacceptable but a different ball game in other parts of the country.
