Nigeria Customs To Renovate GSS Wuse Hall, Donates School Supplies

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is set to renovate a Multipurpose Hall at Government Secondary School Wuse – Zone 3, Abuja, as it launches the ‘Customs Cares Initiative’.

Accordingly, the renovation and supplies are part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as about 1,300 students are benefiting from the first phase of the ‘Customs Cares Initiative’

The NCS also commissioned the installation of CCTV cameras and solar-powered streetlights in and around the school compound, while the technical team was tasked with renovating the school’s auditorium.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, who spoke at the occasion said that the programme was a way of giving back to society and positively impacting the communities where they operate.

His words: “The Customs Cares Initiative represents our comprehensive approach to CSR, designed to foster inclusive growth and create sustainable impact across Nigerian communities where we operate.”

He noted that the programme, which will be rolled out in phases, aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ and the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He said, “This initiative is strategically aligned with President Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’, which prioritizes holistic national development. Inspired by this framework, we focus on six key pillars, beginning with education.”

The Executive Secretary of the Boarder Communities Development Agency, Dr. George Kelly, who was also at the event to support the ‘Customs Cares Initiative’, awarded tertiary institution scholarship to the 10 best graduating students of the school.

The Mandate Secretary, FCT Education Secretariat, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, commended the NCS for their unwavering support towards the development of education in FCT.

Hayyo, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Education Secretariat, Mrs. Joy Chinwe Okeke, said the Secretariat was always open to partnership and collaborations.

“On behalf of the FCT Education Secretariat, I sincerely appreciate the Nigeria Customs Service for this impactful initiative. We remain open to collaborations that will further strengthen our education system and enhance the learning experience for our children. I, thus, call on other organizations to follow this example and invest in the future of our young people,” he added.
