Nigeria will meet DR Congo on Sunday in the CAF World Cup play-off final in Rabat, and the winners will move on to the FIFA Intercontinental Play-off in March as they continue their chase for a place at the 2026 World Cup.

Nigeria are in good spirits because they won 4 to 1 after extra time against Gabon in their previous match. The Super Eagles were pulled back late in normal time, and they needed extra time to take control again. Chidera Ejuke scored early in the extra period, and Victor Osimhen added two more goals after Akor Adams had opened the scoring earlier in the game. The win has put the three time African champions just ninety minutes away from the next qualifying stage.

DR Congo had a tougher path, and they reached the final after a narrow 1 to 0 win over Cameroon. Their captain, Chancel Mbemba, scored in stoppage time from a Cipenga corner after the team had defended with discipline throughout. Their goalkeeper, Lionel Mpasi, handled the pressure well, and he helped keep out several efforts from Andre Onana before the late goal sealed the victory.

The final brings together two different styles, and it promises an interesting contest. Nigeria will rely on their quick play and strong finishing, with Osimhen leading the attack and Wilfred Ndidi providing forward passes from midfield. DR Congo will depend on their compact shape and their sharp counter attacks, with Cedric Bakambu and Fiston Mayele ready to run into space. They will also draw confidence from Mbemba’s leadership in defence.

There is no second chance in this match, and small details may decide the outcome. Both sides will focus on transitions, set pieces, and careful game management as they battle for the final ticket to the next stage.

The winners will join the six team FIFA Inter Continental Play Off in March, and two teams from that group will qualify for the World Cup, while the losers will see their journey end in Rabat.
