DG FCT FEMA solicits better collaboration with NEMA

Sept, 2021 | By Danson Magaji | ||

The Director General of the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency,(FCT FEMA), Alhaji Abbas Idriss wants managers of disasters and emergency situations in the country to come together and brainstorm on policies and response guidelines that will prevent and tackle disasters in the society.

Alh. Abbas Idriss made the call when he paid a courtesy call on the newly appointed Director General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Alh. Mustapha Habib Ahmed in his office in Abuja. The DG FCT FEMA informed that due to recurring emergency situations globally, there is need for an enhanced collaboration between FEMA and NEMA to further improve on disaster management in capacity development, vulnerability capacity assessment and risk assessment in the FCT.

"The world is in turmoil, there are different kinds of disaster that are coming up apart from the ones we already know, and there is need for all the disaster managers to come together and articulate policies and response guidelines that will help tackle disasters and prevent them if possible". "We were watching flooding in different nations years back, today it is in our domain. We need to really brace up and ensure that Nigeria gets the best in her disaster management". He added.

While congratulating the NEMA DG on his appointment, Alh. Idriss observed that the leadership crises faced by NEMA in recent times did not only affect the functionality of FEMA, but the whole of the Africa sub-region. Responding, the Director General of NEMA Mustapha Habib Ahmed assured of his preparedness to work with FEMA and other disaster agencies to curb disasters and create an enabling environment in the FCT and its environs. It would be recalled that the purpose of the visit was to congratulate the DG NEMA on his appointment and solicit for better collaboration between the two agencies.

With the support of her principals, Dame Joy Okoro has gradually been solving the many issues that plagued FCT Water Board with the immediate noticeable result being that revenue has shot up apparently for the first time in a while.

In a recent interview with Abuja Digest Weekly's Sennen Udoh, Mr. Ekpenyong, was a journalist's delight to behold as he volunteered consultancy counseling on effective mentoring on education, moral upbringing, and sports/other talents.

The involvement of women in sports in Nigeria in some quarters, particularly in northern Nigeria, is something that is viewed as rather unacceptable but a different ball game in other parts of the country.
