WIKE REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO FCT INFRASTRUCTURE, SECURITY IN 66TH INDEPENDENCE DAY MESSAGE

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has congratulated residents of Abuja on Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to transforming the nation’s capital into a world-class city with robust infrastructure, enhanced security, and reliable public service across all Area Councils.
Speaking on the anniversary them: “From Reforms to Stability: Consolidating Nigeria’s Renewed Hope for Shared Prosperity,” Wike praised the resilience of Nigerians and expressed strong optimism about the country’s economic and structural trajectory under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
In a personally signed independence message released on 1st October, 2026, Wike emphasized that the FCT remains the ultimate symbol of national unity, uniting citizens across diverse backgrounds under a shared purpose.
Addressing the milestone achievements recorded across the Territory, the Minister highlighted extensive investments in critical infrastructure, specifically noting the total overhaul of road networks connecting the city center to far-flung rural settlements.
According to him, the provision of durable roads complete with drainage systems and solar lighting has substantially improved accessibility while curbing insecurity in remote communities.
On public transportation, the underscored the completion of ultramodern bus terminals within the Abuja Municipal Area Council, announcing plans to extend similar modern transit facilities to Kuje, Bwari, and Gwagwalada Area Councils to guarantee safe, secure commuting for all residents.
The Minister also outlined key interventions in social services, reassuring the public that ongoing investments in primary healthcare centers and public schools aim to ensure no resident is left behind.
He noted that equipping basic educational institutions and upgrading health facilities across all six area councils are vital steps toward building a resilient, competitive population.
Highlighting security as the administration’s foremost priority, Wike revealed that the FCT Administration has intensified surveillance, strengthened community policing, and deployed advanced modern technology in close collaboration with security agencies to effectively combat crime and safeguard lives and property.
Ahead of the upcoming general elections scheduled for January 2027, the minister urged residents to remain law-abiding, protect public infrastructure against vandalism, and participate actively in electing progressive leaders capable of sustaining and expanding the current developmental momentum across the territory.
Wike concluded by thanking FCT residents for their continued support, encouraging peaceful coexistence and shared responsibility in building a capital city that serves as a beacon of hope for the African continent.
