FEMD, NEMA TO COLLABORATE ON DISASTER MANAGEMENT.

The FCT Emergency Management Department, (FEMD), says it will strengthen  its collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency,(NEMA)to enhance emergency response and relief in the FCT.

The Director of FEMD,Engr. Muhammad Dikko  disclosed this during a courtesy visit to NEMA Abuja Operations Office.

Engr. Dikko stated that FEMD had the capacity to provide data on emergencies at communities in the FCT to facilitate response and relief actions.

He appealed to NEMA to build the capacity of FEMD staff noting that this would enhance disaster risk reduction in the FCT.

“Train them on what they are expected to do. This will reduce the workload of NEMA”. He said.

Responding, the Head of Operations, NEMA Abuja Office,Mr Zakari Abubakar promised to work with FEMD on disaster management.

” Disaster management thrives on collaboration. No single agency does it alone”. He said.

On capacity building, he said that disaster management was an emerging sector which  requires training and retraining of staff to do what is required.

Zakari pledged the commitment of the Agency to training FEMD personnel.

Management staff of both agencies attended the courtesy visit.
