The President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Engr. Abu Gumel, has urged the Nigeria Baseball and Softball Federation to work hard and secure a place for Nigeria at the next Olympic Games in the United States.

Engr. Gumel made this call during a courtesy visit from the President of the Nigeria Baseball and Softball Federation, Uche Paulinus Odozor. During the visit, Odozor gave updates on the progress the federation has made to qualify for the global competition and to represent Africa.

“We expect the Baseball and Softball Federation to work towards qualifying for the next Olympics,” Engr. Gumel said. “We will provide all necessary support to grow sports in Nigeria and ensure that all associations get equal opportunities.”

Odozor thanked the NOC President for his support and shared some of the federation’s achievements. One of the key accomplishments is the recovery and upgrade of the baseball and softball park at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja. This move has brought new energy to the sport, attracting many young Nigerians to take part.

To boost Nigeria’s chances of qualifying, the federation has also opened liaison offices in countries like Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and parts of Asia. These offices help in scouting talent and building international support. Odozor confirmed that some players abroad have already shown interest and promised to play for Nigeria when needed.

He also praised the Federal Capital Territory Youth Secretariat for its strong backing. He called on other states across Nigeria to follow the FCT’s example and invest more in sports.

As a sign of appreciation for his encouragement and leadership, Mr. Odozor named Engr. Abu Gumel the Special Guest of Honor at this year’s World Baseball and Softball Day celebration, which will take place next month.

The Nigeria Baseball and Softball Federation is now focused on preparing a strong team that can compete on the international stage and bring pride to the nation.
