The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, has praised Ogun State for its excellent hosting of the ongoing National Sports Festival, calling it a model for future editions.

In a press statement issued after a World Media Chat, Dikko said Ogun’s smooth organization and quick response to challenges have set a new standard. “This festival is a major improvement from previous editions. The prompt handling of issues shows serious commitment,” he said.

He noted that the NSC is aligning with the President’s vision to make sports a major economic driver, focusing on job creation, the value chain, and revenue generation. He revealed plans to schedule the festival for November through December annually to attract more private sector sponsorship.

Dikko praised the inclusion of Invited Junior Athletes (IJA), calling it a step toward building future champions. He said 65 athletes are currently benefiting from the private-funded “Adopt-An-Athlete” initiative and will represent Nigeria in the upcoming African Youth Games.

He also announced a partnership with the Ministry of Education to revive school sports and establish “universities of excellence” to support talented students in each geopolitical zone.

Regarding governance, Dikko stressed that only committed individuals would be allowed to lead sports federations. He commended the federal government for approving the Olympic and Commonwealth Games preparation budget, a first in Nigeria’s history.

He concluded by thanking the media for fair coverage and revealed plans to boost visibility through better media facilities, a dedicated sports channel, and an expanded YouTube presence.

NSC Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, also assured those earlier media concerns were addressed and promised improved infrastructure for future games.
