Paris Saint-Germain lifted their first UEFA Champions League trophy in spectacular style, beating Inter Milan 5-0 in the biggest win ever recorded in a final. The one-sided contest took place in Munich and marked the 70th edition of the European Cup final.
Luis Enrique’s young and energetic PSG team were in complete control from the start. The opening goal came in the 12th minute when 19-year-old Desire Doue, who was later named player of the match, set up Achraf Hakimi for a simple finish.
From that point on, the French side never looked back. Inter Milan, past winners in 1964, 1965, and 2010, struggled to keep up with PSG’s pace, quality, and hunger.
The second goal was a brilliant team move. PSG broke quickly from their own box, with Ousmane Dembele providing the pass for Doue. His powerful volley took a deflection off Federico Dimarco and flew past Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer.
PSG continued to dominate in the second half. On 63 minutes, Vitinha delivered a precise pass for Doue, who calmly scored his second goal of the night. Ten minutes later, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia finished off another well-worked move, smashing Dembele’s cross into the net for the fourth goal.
With Inter completely exhausted, substitute Senny Mayulu added the fifth and final goal in the 86th minute. Fellow substitute Bradley Barcola did well to set it up, and the ball crept in off the near post.
This historic win makes PSG the second French team ever to win the Champions League, joining Olympique Marseille, who beat Milan 1-0 in 1993 in the same city. The result also continues a trend of teams winning their first title in Munich, following Nottingham Forest in 1979, Marseille in 1993, Borussia Dortmund in 1997, and Chelsea in 2012.
Luis Enrique also achieved a personal milestone by becoming the sixth coach ever to win the Champions League with two different clubs, adding to his 2015 triumph with Barcelona.
