President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned the renovated Abuja International Conference Center (ICC), which has been renamed Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Center.
While commissioning the ICC, Tuesday, 10th June 2025, the President reaffirmed the determination of his administration to renew the hope of all Nigerians, even as he expressed delight over the renovated national edifice.
He said: “I am greatly honoured and happy to be here to reopen this International Conference Centre as part of our determined efforts to change the way we do things, to reflect us as people of quality, people of character, people of determination, people of great spirit.
“That is who we are, and I am glad that you, Nyesom Wike, are reflecting that.
“Don’t pay attention to the busybodies and bystanders. Whatever they say, continue to do your good work. You are a transformational leader; you have the foresight, the vision, and the determination to succeed. Thank you very much.”
The President charged Nigerians to view the current challenges as necessary for national rebirth, saying, “whatever might be wrong today is a sign of the good thing that we are correcting.
“We are reflecting, renewing our hope and believing in ourselves in what we can do, what we can be – a great nation on earth.
“Through the Renewed Hope Agenda, we are determined to renew infrastructure across the key sectors of this country -transportation, health care, education, energy, and urban development.”
The President continued: “Because you understand that modern infrastructure is the backbone of a thriving economy in an inclusive and progressive society.
“The International Conference Centre is part of our country’s larger vision to become a hub for regional diplomacy, continental trade discussions, global partnership, and many more thoughtful, well-outlined goals that reflect our Nigeria First.”
Noting that the International Conference Centre would also facilitate global partnerships and conferencing, the President charged the public to obey the Minister, insisting that users of the facility must pay.
“You must obey what the landlord says. If you wanna use this place, you’re gonna pay for it,” he charged.
On his part, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, also hailed the Minister, submitting that the facts about Wike’s achievements in the FCT speak for themselves.
Corroborating that the facility was “a monumental embarrassment”, Akpabio stated that innovation, renovation, and transformation were being made manifest in the nation’s capital.
In his welcome address earlier, the FCT Minister, Barrister. Nyesom Wike recalled the dilapidated state of the Centre about eight months ago before President Tinubu ordered the comprehensive renovation of the edifice.
The Minister named the facility, the Ahmed Bola Tinubu International Conference, Abuja, reiterating that anyone wishing to use the facility must pay for its use.
“If you must use this place, you have to pay. Nothing like my brother, my sister wants to do a wedding…if you want to use a beautiful place like this, you must drop something,” Wike insisted.
