Lionel Messi reminded the world that he still has his magical touch as Inter Miami came from behind to beat FC Porto 2-1 in a thrilling Group A clash at the FIFA Club World Cup on Thursday.

The match, played at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, started with drama as Porto took the lead just eight minutes into the game. Miami defender Noah Allen made a clumsy tackle on Joao Mario inside the box, giving the Portuguese side an early penalty. Spain international Samu Aghehowa stepped up and calmly scored to put Porto ahead.

Despite the early setback, Inter Miami refused to give up. After a quiet end to the first half, they returned from the break with renewed energy and determination. Just two minutes into the second half, winger Telasco Segovia scored a brilliant goal to level the match. He smashed a perfect half-volley into the net after a sharp cross from Marcelo Weigandt.

Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for. In the 54th minute, Argentine legend and eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi was brought down just outside the penalty area by Porto’s Rodrigo Mora. As the crowd chanted his name, Messi stepped up and curled a beautiful left-footed free-kick over the wall and into the top right corner. The goalkeeper had no chance.

It was a classic Messi moment, calm, precise, and unstoppable.

With a one-goal lead and 35 minutes still to play, Inter Miami grew in confidence. They kept their composure and held strong until the final whistle. The win gave them all three points and a strong chance of making it to the next round.

Now, Inter Miami sit second in Group A, level on points with Brazilian giants Palmeiras. The two teams will face each other on Matchday 3 in what promises to be an exciting group stage finale.

Messi may be older now, but the Argentine star’s left foot is still as magical as ever.
