Iga Swiatek made history on Saturday by becoming the first Polish player to win a Wimbledon singles title, defeating American Amanda Anisimova in stunning fashion. The match lasted just 57 minutes, with Swiatek winning 6-0 6-0 in one of the most one-sided finals in tennis history.

The 24-year-old Swiatek, seeded eighth, showed no mercy as she took full advantage of Anisimova’s nerves. Anisimova, who was playing in her first Grand Slam final, could not find her rhythm on Centre Court.

The result marked the first time in over 100 years that a player lost a Wimbledon final without winning a game. It also had not happened in any Grand Slam final since Steffi Graf beat Natasha Zvereva 6-0 6-0 at the 1988 French Open.

Until this year, Swiatek had never gone past the quarter-finals at Wimbledon, despite winning four French Open titles. But this time, she stormed through the tournament. After dropping only two games in her semi-final against Belinda Bencic, she was even more ruthless in the final, sealing victory with a powerful backhand winner.

This win is Swiatek’s sixth Grand Slam title and she has now won all six of her Grand Slam finals. It also brings her total to 100 wins in just 120 major matches, making her the fastest to reach that milestone since Serena Williams in 2004.

At just 24, Swiatek is now the youngest player since Serena Williams in 2002 to win Grand Slam titles on all three surfaces—clay, hard court, and grass.

Speaking after her win, Swiatek said, “It seems super surreal. I did not even dream about this because it always felt so far away. I feel like I am already experienced, but I never really expected this one.”
