In a bold move to modernize its promotion processes, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has cleared 915 directorate-level staffers to sit for a Computer-Based Test (CBT) as part of their promotion examinations.
First batch of the exercise, organized by the FCT Civil Service Commission at the Public Service Institute in Dutse Alhaji, Abuja, had participants from the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB), Secondary Education Board (SEB), Education Secretariat, and other departments and agencies.
The CBT is aimed at ensuring candidates are equipped to handle technology-driven challenges in their various roles.
Chairman of the Commission, Emeka Eze, while speaking at the opening day emphasized that the initiative aligns with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike’s agenda to resolve years of promotion backlogs, which have been approved by President Bola Tinubu.
His words: “When His Excellency, Mr. Minister came on board, there was a backlog of outstanding promotions. He cleared all the backlogs of promotions dating back up to 2019, up to the level of deputy directors.
“Under the Renewed Hope Agenda, we introduced CBT to eliminate interference and ensure transparency. Results will be released within a week, leaving no room for undue influence,” Eze assured.
He also disclosed that the Commission also uncovered widespread age falsification during workforce verification, leading to mandatory retirements for offenders.
The Commission’s South-East representative, Martins Azubuike, on his part, warned that failure in the examination would leave workers with no excuses.
“The CBT is here to stay. If you can’t operate a computer, you can’t answer the questions—promotions will be merit-based,” he declared.
This milestone makes the FCTA the first in Nigeria to adopt CBT for promotion examinations, setting a precedent for transparency and digital competence in civil service.
