In continuation of project flag-offs designed to ensure water supply to the satellite towns, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has inaugurated work on the Lot 1 Bwari Township Water Supply Project.
During the ceremony in Bwari on Wednesday, 20th August 2025, the Minister disclosed that the critical project would generate 1,600 direct and indirect job opportunities for Nigerians, amongst other benefits.
Reiterating that no project under his watch would be abandoned, the Minister revealed that President Tinubu had already approved the release of 50% of the project’s total sum and mandated its completion within 18 months.
However, the Minister noted that the FCT Administration had urged the contractor to deliver the project in time for commissioning during the President’s third anniversary in office.
Wike recalled promising stakeholders in the six Area Councils, during a meeting after assuming office, that the President desired to provide potable water to all satellite towns. He affirmed that the President was already fulfilling this agreement with the people.
“When we made that statement, of course, as usual, people saw it as politics. We will ensure this is done,” he reiterated.
He declared that the President never fails to fulfill his promises: “I remind you that one thing you must acknowledge about the President is that when he makes promises, he always keeps them.
“Today, we are in Bwari. Tomorrow, we’ll be in Karu -essentially covering two Area Councils together.
“This shows we are not concentrating development only in the city. We are also extending it to the Area Councils.
“By the time we finish Bwari and Karu, next year’s budget, by God’s grace, will include Kuje and Kwali. Then, by 2027, we’ll have covered Gwagwalada and Abaji,” he envisioned.
The Minister expressed confidence that the projects would eliminate the need for boreholes and water tanks: “All you’ll need is to link up to the main water source, and clean, treated water will flow, unlike borehole water, which is untreated.”
He urged community members, including youth and traditional leaders, to support the contractors and protect the projects for timely completion, just as they did with road projects, emphasizing water’s importance to life.
Wike thanked attendees for braving the rain to support the President’s initiative.
In her vote of thanks, the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, stated her heart was “overflowing with gratitude.”
She thanked God for life and water, as well as the President for fulfilling his promises. To Wike, she said: “Your leadership is like a flowing stream consistent and unwavering. We thank you.” She also acknowledged other stakeholders for their contributions. Dr. Mahmoud stressed that the project was not merely about pipes and tanks but ensuring access to clean, safe water
