To address growing concerns over the proliferation of billboards in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the president of the Outdoor Advertising Association of Nigeria (OAAN), Mr. Sola Akinsiku, and members of the body’s executive (Exco) have engaged the management of the FCT Department of Outdoor Advertising and Signage (DOAS) in a meeting.

The meeting, marked by a sense of urgency and purpose, aimed to find a solution to the cluttering of billboards that has led to the gradual desecration of the city’s precious, carefully guarded aesthetics.

Speaking during the parley, Mr. Akinsiku expressed concern over the matter, noting that OAAN being a professional association, is committed to regulating the activities of outdoor advertising practitioners.

He emphasized that the association is confident in the capacity of the DOAS management to ensure that the malpractice is curtailed and resolved.

Additionally, other OAAN members present pledged to adhere to advertising guidelines and ensure that billboard sanity returns to the FCT.

Acting Director, DOAS, Mrs Fatima Amanabo, in her response, expressed appreciation to OAAN for their proactive approach, assuring them that the department will carry out massive regulation of out-of-home advertising practices.

She emphasized that the department will ensure that all construction and installation of billboards adhere to laid-down rules and regulations

OAAN members pledged their support to DOAS and Management in the discharge of their duties

The meeting marked a significant step towards restoring sanity to the FCT’s outdoor advertising landscape.
