The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) College of Education, Zuba-Abuja, has partnered with the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project to enhance environmental protection within the institution.

Speaking during the commissioning of a tree planting exercise on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, the Provost of the College, Dr. Sule Mundi, expressed appreciation to ACReSAL for its support in donating thousands of tree seedlings to the institution.

He explained that the initiative will not only protect the school’s infrastructure from destructive winds but also contribute to creating a safer, greener, and more sustainable learning environment.

Dr. Mundi further emphasized the need to ban motorists from passing through the College premises for daily activities as part of efforts to curb insecurity within the institution.

He further called on the deans of schools to participate actively in the general tree planting exercise scheduled for Friday, August 29, 2025.

In her remarks, the Project Coordinator of ACReSAL, Okpara Caroline, noted that the project is a World Bank–assisted initiative in Northern Nigeria aimed at reversing land degradation, restoring natural resources, and promoting sustainable management of semi-arid landscapes.

According to her, the intervention will strengthen Nigeria’s ability to manage climate-resilient landscapes, improve livelihoods, and enhance environmental protection for communities, including the College, saying boreholes would also be constructed within the College to ensure water availability for nurturing the newly planted trees.

The symbolic tree planting was carried out by the Provost, Dr. Sule Mundi; Deputy Provost, Dr. (Mrs.) Adegbemisola Olotu, Acting Registrar; Hajiya Zainab Suleiman Itakure, Acting Bursar; Mr. Joseph Iyako, and Acting Librarian, Hajiya Sa’adatu Ladi Sanusi (represented by Deputy Director, Civil, Hajiya Radiya Awal Muhammad).

Others were the Director of Works, Mallam Abdulkadir Aliyu Abdullahi (represented by Deputy Director, Mechanical, Eng. Umar Aliyu Bologi), and the Director of Public Relations, Hajiya Ramat Musa Jijitar.

The exercise marked a significant step in the College’s commitment to environmental sustainability and resilience against climate change.
