The Provost of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) College of Education (COE), Zuba, Dr. Sule Mundi, has inaugurated new executives of the Association of Women in Colleges of Education (WICE).

While inaugurating the executives recently in Abuja, Dr. Mundi said the unity among women is the bedrock for the development of any society.

He commended the outgoing executives and encouraged the new to avoid tribalism and religious divisions, stating the importance of working together for the betterment of the association and its advancement.

The provost urged the members to be active financial members to improve the organisation’s functioning and take it to greater heights.

The special guest at the occasion and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement for North Central, Dr. Abiodun Essiet, also expressed her delight & happiness at being part of the historical event.

She stated the importance of appreciating the contributions of women and amplifying their work, adding that her appointment was a testament to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s dedication to elevating women to key positions.

Dr Essiet emphasized that the President is genuinely interested in promoting women’s roles in line with the renewed hope agenda and re-echoed the provost’s statement: “When you give women the opportunity to excel, you empower a nation.”

The SSA to the President also praised the provost for creating a more enabling environment for women to thrive. She revealed that her office is open for collaboration to help address some of the issues facing the College.

She advised on the need to have a daycare center, stating that caring for a baby is just as important as caring for the mother.

Earlier in her address, the Deputy Bursar and National Treasurer of WICE, Mrs. Theresa Ajaidu, who represented the National President, Prof. Theresa Okoli, appreciated the provost and his management for their unflinching support for the association.

 She also thanked the members and urged them to collaborate closely with the new executives for the betterment of the association.

The Treasurer also encouraged the new executives to draw on the wealth of experience from other members who have previously led the association.

On her part, the outgoing Chairperson, Dr. Mrs. Jane Asonze, appreciated the Provost and Patron for supporting, guiding, and creating an enabling environment for the association to thrive. She also appreciated the Deputy Provost, Acting Registrar, and the entire management team and the school community for their unwavering support.

The outgoing Chairperson further encouraged members to continue embracing love, cooperation, and mutual respect, as injury to one is an injury to all.

“As I hand over to our new Chairperson, my former Vice Chairperson, I am confident they will build upon our successes and tackle new challenges. My EXCO will be available to provide clarification or support, as the case may be, needed during the transition. Thank you for the privilege of serving. Let us continue working together for our association’s growth and prosperity,” she said.

In her acceptance speech, the Chairperson, Dr. Comfort Ekele, said she’s grateful for the trust members of the association have placed in her and pledged to serve with dedication and integrity.

 “I look forward to collaborating with fellow members, particularly my fellow aspirants, to advance our mission and empower women financially and otherwise,” Dr. Ekele stated.

In her vote of thanks, Acting Registrar Hajiya Zainab Itakure commended the provost for his open policy towards women in the College. “Whenever an issue arises, he ensures it is addressed immediately.”

Meanwhile, Dr Mundi expressed sadness over the demise of the Head of Service of the FCT Administration, Mrs Grace Adayilo, who passed on in the early hours of Monday, September 1, 2025, in Abuja.

He extended his heartfelt condolences, describing the deceased as a good friend, and prayed for the repose of her soul and for the bereaving family to find solace in God.
