It was a day of pomp and circumstance and one filled with gratitude and renewed commitment as management and staff, as well as retirees of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) College of Education, Zuba gathered for its historic welfare ceremony.

The event which presented a moment of sober reflection, and recommitment to unity and progress within the college community, also featured the inauguration of newly appointed deans, directors, heads of departments, chairpersons and members of standing committees and awards for deserving staff.

In his keynote address, the College Provost Dr. Sule Mundi, applauded the retirees’ devotion during their service years and their immense contributions to the College.

The provost said: “We have invited you to celebrate you and share happiness with you and also to tell you that we have not forgotten you and we will never forget you.”

He appreciated the management including the outgoing deans, directors, heads of departments, coordinators and committee chairpersons for their unflinching support and reliability.

Earlier, in her welcome address, the Chairperson, Staff Welfare and Award Committee, Mrs Theresa Ajaidu, welcomed everyone and said the event was the second in its series.

She appreciated the provost, for ensuring the success of the occasion despite limited resources.

She wished the newly elected deans wisdom and success as they begin to pilot the affairs of their various schools while also wishing the retirees well in their new lives.

Giving the Provost’s account of stewardship in the two years of his leadership, the Deputy Director (Mechanical), Works and Maintenance Department, Engr. Aliyu Umar Bologi stated that the provost’s administration has delivered a modern gate house, a three-kilometre perimeter fence, and the completion of a 2.2km access road. Key academic facilities including the administrative block, classrooms, and a fire-damaged female hostel, renovated, while the installation of a hybrid solar system and 300 streetlights now guarantee reliable power supply and safety within and around the College premises.

The provost, he added also constructed a 600-capacity Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre, with a 650-seat auditorium under construction.

 Dr. Mundi he said had also inspired the creation of an Entrepreneurship Centre and the College’s ’s first Science Fair, designed to foster innovation.

 “Staff welfare has improved under him with the clearance of promotion arrears, salary increments, and the recruitment of 228 staff. The College has achieved full accreditation for 28 programmes and produced 30 PhD holders among others.

“Additionally, campus, partnerships with Ahmadu Bello University, University of Maiduguri, and Federal University Lokoja have deepened academic collaboration. Importantly, the College has established nine study centres across Niger and Kaduna states, broadening access and generating revenue,” Engr. Bologi stated.

He noted that Dr. Mundi’s blend of infrastructural growth and human development has positioned the College as a hub of excellence and innovation.

Highlight of the event were the presentation of cash gifts to the retirees, presentation of awards of excellence and the official inauguration of the new appointees.
