FCT MINISTER FLAGS OFF CONSTRUCTION OF ACCESS ROADS, REHABILITATION OF 15KM OLD KEFFI ROAD

In a significant stride towards improving infrastructure in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT) Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has flagged off construction of access roads and the comprehensive rehabilitation of the 15-kilometer Old Keffi Road, stretching from Kado Village to Dei-Dei Junction.
The event, which took place on Monday, 7th October, 2025, drew a large crowd of residents and support groups who cheered the Minister intermittently as the he delivered his remarks.
Wike, while reiterating President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to infrastructural renewal, emphasizing that the Old Keffi Road project was a direct fulfillment of an earlier pledge by the President.
He recalled: “When we commissioned the Saburi 1 and Saburi 2 roads, I made it clear that the job would only be complete when this critical stretch, from Kado Village to Dei-Dei -will also be rehabilitated. Today, by God’s grace, we are keeping that promise.”
The Minister praised Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Maikalangu, for his persistent advocacy on behalf of his constituents. “True representation means leaders who prioritize the needs of their people above personal gain,” Wike noted.”
He also urged the contractor, Lubrik Construction Company to prioritize local employment, ensuring that youths and women from the community benefit through direct jobs or subcontracts. “This project must not only improve transportation but also empower the people economically,” he stressed.
Wike disclosed that the Old Keffi Road rehabilitation is just one of many projects underway in the FCT, revealing that 73 out of 103 schools in the FCT are currently under reconstruction, with 33 more set to commence soon.
Additionally, 73 out of 105 ongoing projects are situated within AMAC and the city center.
“This administration is not about empty promises. We are delivering tangible results. In the coming days, we will flag off 27 more projects -a historic feat never before achieved in the FCT.”
He concluded with the appeal: “Support President Tinubu’s vision. Together, we will build an Abuja that works for all.”
In her vote of thanks, FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud applauded President Bola Tinubu for his continous support to infrastructural provision and for prioritizing projects that touch the lives of ordinary citizens.
She stressed that the project was another testimony of Mr. President’s vision of delivering roads that promote connectivity, accessibility, and economic growth in the FCT.
Also extending appreciation to the FCT for his purposeful leadership, Mahmoud emphasized: “This road is a lifeline that serves thousands of commuters daily, linking communities, reducing travel time, improving road safety, and stimulating socio-economic activities across the axis.”
