EDUCATION SECRETARY COMMENDS FCT SCHOOLS FOR EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCE

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Mandate Secretary for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, has commended public secondary schools under the FCT Secondary Education Board (SEB) for their remarkable performances in national competitions, describing them as pacesetters and worthy ambassadors of the FCT education system.
The commendation came as representatives of various award-winning schools paid a courtesy visit to the Education Secretariat to present their trophies, certificates, and cash prizes.
Leading the achievers was Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) Dutse, which emerged overall winner in the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), National Science Competition, earning a ₦4 million cash prize for its outstanding performance.
Other notable winners include Government Secondary School (GSS) Gwarinpa, which came second place in the same competition and won ₦2 million for its exceptional performance. Government Secondary School Tudun Wada and Model Secondary School Maitama, who were 2nd and 3rd runner ups respectively, won ₦1 million each for their performance at the NERC competition.
The School for the Gifted outstandingly bagged 1st place in the 2025 JRB Solar Investment Nigeria Ltd Essay Writing Competition on Renewable Energy, winning ₦1 million and digital tablets, and also earned another ₦500,000 with two laptops and trophies in the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) 2025 contest.
GSS Tudun Wada also bagged 2nd position at the same essay writing competition, winning a whooping ₦750,000.
In the area of sports, GSS Gwarinpa emerged 1st position at the flag football FCT championship finals and is set to represent FCT at the national finals.
In his remarks, Dr. Hayyo praised the schools, teachers, and students for bringing pride to the FCT, emphasizing that their achievements reflect the dedication and quality of the Territory ’s education system. He said, “You have demonstrated that with the right guidance, our students can compete favourably anywhere in the world. You are pacesetters and role models for others to emulate.”
The visit was attended by the Director/Secretary of the FCT Secondary Education Board, Dr. Sani Ladan, the Director of Co-curricular Activities, Fatima Baba Gambo, as well as school principals, teachers, and the victorious students.
In his vote of thanks, Dr. Ladan appreciated the Mandate Secretary and the FCT Minister, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, for their continued investment in education. He noted that the supportive environment created by the administration has enabled students to thrive academically and morally. “The results we are seeing today are the fruits of the enabling environment and leadership provided by the FCT Administration. Our students now have the confidence to compete and win globally,” he said.
