The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, has stated that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu is determined to change the lives of FCT residents in both satellite towns and the city center.

The Minister made this remark while speaking to journalists after inspecting the newly awarded Apo-Karshi and Kubwa-Bwari roads on Monday, 1st December 2025.

While responding to a question about the Apo/Karshi road project, which had been stalled for over a decade. The minister said, “When we came on board in 2023, one major project that was of great concern was the Apo-Karshi Road, which was awarded in 2010. A lot of variations had taken place before we assumed office. When we called the contractor, they agreed to return to the site and promised to deliver the project within six months. Unfortunately, it was a major disappointment, so we had no choice but to terminate the contract and award it to a more competent and serious contractor; SCC.”

The Minister stressed that due to the road’s importance to residents in the area, the project had to be revived through an emergency process, as a fresh procurement would waste time, and the rainy season would pose another challenge.

“We are redoing everything. The road is about 13–14 kilometers long. All previous work will be removed because we believe it does not meet the required standard, and the people deserve the best,” he assured.

Wike expressed optimism that the people of Apo-Karshi would forever acknowledge the President for remembering them and ensuring they benefit from democracy’s dividends in satellite communities, just as in the city center.

Regarding the Bwari Road, the Minister said: “We also inspected the Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX) in Kubwa, which is a major road requiring urgent attention. We have awarded it to SCC for major reconstruction. Passing through that road today was an eye-opener, revealing many areas needing intervention.”

“Our goal is to demonstrate that this administration is committed to improving not only the city but also satellite communities. Never in Abuja’s history has such attention been given to rural areas. This is the essence of the Renewed Hope Agenda. The enthusiasm from residents and business owners here is a testament to this progress,” the Minister emphasized.

Responding to a question on his plans for other areas with similar infrastructure challenges, the Minister stated that he could only do the best he could, saying “I cannot complete every work in the FCT. No government can. So, we will do the best we can. And having done our best, when another person comes, they can continue from there,

“Government is a continuum. So, we have identified the ones we can solve now, and we leave the rest for other people. There is no way we can say that we will finish the entire job or we will finish providing infrastructure in the entire Abuja. That’s not possible,” he said.
