GSS Gwagwalada Gets Corper’s Lodge

The Parents Teachers Association of Government Secondary School, Gwagwalada, has Constructed and commissioned a Corper’s Lodge for the School.

Accordingly, the lodge was donated to the School for the comfort and convenience of the members of the National Youth Service Corps posted to the School.

Speaking during the commissioning, the Director/Secretary, FCT Secondary Education Board, Dr. Mohammed Sani Ladan, said that the donation is a testament to the School’s commitment as a beacon of support for the National Service.

He said, the Corps members’ Lodge stands as a symbol of unity that will foster a sense of togetherness and cooperation among all Stakeholders.

He stated that the Parents Teachers Association’s involvement in this project is an embodiment of their unwavering dedication to enhancing the educational experience and supporting the larger community.

Ladan described the well equipped Lodge with modern facilities as abode for comfortable and secure environment for Corps members who serve the school as a thoughtful initiative that will ensure that the young Corps members can focus on their important roles as Educators without worrying about accomodation concerns and the importance of appreciating the Corps members who contribute selflessly to the teaching and learning system.

He stressed for good utilization of the residential facilities.

The Director applauded the Parents Teachers Association of the School for their efforts and commitment towards students’ outstanding performance; urging the PTA and School to continue in this line of collaboration which demonstrates the power of community driven projects that will benefit the school and society.

The FCT NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Winifred Shokpeka, who represented the Director- General, National Youth Service Corps at the occasion, commended the School Parents Teachers Association for their foresight, and expressed delight on the laudable efforts of building the lodge.

According to her, the project underscores one item in the Director General thrust policy aimed at improving the security, welfare of corps members and staff to engender optimal service delivery to the Nation.

She urged other organizations to emulate this monumental gesture by prioritizing the corps welfare and security to get the best out of them during the service year.

In his remarks, the School Chairman of the Parents Teachers Association, Pastor John Okolo, revealed that the project which was conceived early 2022 with groundbreaking ceremony done in March 2023 is been commissioned in October,2023.

“With the little token PTA charges, Grace and fear of God, we were able to get this project done . And ready to do more,” he added.

The Chairman thanked the Parents for their commitment towards the realization of this project.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Principal of the School, Mr. Victor Orifah explained that the idea behind the construction of this facility was conceived in early 2022 considering the manpower gap the school was facing in the area of teaching staff, and the critical role Corps members can play to close this gap; adding that lack of accomodation for those posted in the past made it difficult to retain the Corps members.

He commended the Secretary for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, and the Director, FCT Secondary Education Board, Dr. Sani Ladan for ensuring that our schools are functional on all fronts and no standard is compromised.
