Wike Seeks Cuban, Mexican Partnership in Tourism, Vocational Education

Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has solicited partnership of the government’s and peoples of Cuba and Mexico.

The Minister made the call when he separately received the Ambassadors of the two countries to Nigeria in his office on Thursday.

Wike disclosed that there were numerous opportunities for investments in the FCT; promising that the Administration would give special consideration to those indicating serious interest in investing in Abuja.

The Minister informed the Cuban Ambassador, Miriam Morales Palmero, that Nigeria would like to leverage Cuban’s medical breakthrough in the development of anti-malaria drugs.

He also said that the nation’s capital has enough arable lands for agriculture; adding that the administration would support any genuine collaboration that would ensure the development of the sector.

The Cuban Ambassador, disclosed that some Cuban-based pharmaceutical companies, have expressed interest in investment in Abuja; adding that Nigeria had already signed agreement with the firm in 2016 as part of efforts to eliminate malaria.

She also added that investors from her country would like to partner with FCT Administration in the areas of agriculture, tourism and job creation.

In a related development, Nyesom Wike, told the Mexican Ambassador, Alfredo Miranda Ortiz, that President Bola Tinubu has dismantled beaurecratic bottlenecks that were hindrances to investments in the country.

Wike, who revealed lack of interest in just signing Memorandum of Understanding without corresponding actions, expressed desire for serious foreign investors willing to tap into the vast investment opportunities in the FCT.

His words: “Mexico is a country known for agriculture and we would like to partner with country that will add value to our economic development.”

“I am tired of signing MoU, I want actions that will bring benefits to the country,” he restated.

The Mexican Ambassador assured the Minister that once there is an enabling environment, Mexican investors would be glad to bring in their skills and experience in Agriculture to Nigeria.
