FCTA Pledges Cooperation With House Committee

The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has pledged the FCT Administration’s commitment to work with House of Representatives Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters in developing the Territory.

The Minister, who spoke during the inauguration of the FCT Committee on Area Councils and Ancillary Matters, at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja, Wednesday, said the FCT Administration’s cooperation with the committee will bring about effective discharge of their constitutional oversight functions.

The Minister noted that the Committee plays a crucial role in addressing the diverse issues within FCT.

Her word: “The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Committee on Area Council and Ancillary Matters typically performs functions related to the administration, development, and coordination of activities in the Area Councils within the FCT.”

“This include, but not limited to, overseeing local governance, infrastructure development, and addressing ancillary issues that impact on the overall well-being of the residents in the Territory,” she added.

Mahmoud said, “It also plays a crucial role in ensuring effective local governance and the implementation of policies at the grassroots level within the Federal Capital Territory”.

The Minister, therefore, assured that the FCT Administration would work together with the Committee towards the development and betterment of residents of the Territory and visitors alike.

In his remarks, the Chairman House Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters, Agbedi Fred, had solicited for the support of the FCT Administration in the areas of tourism, revenue drive, development of rural infrastructures sports, chieftancy affairs and other sundry matters.

He, also assured that the Committee would continue to legislate on policies that would help accelerate development across the Area Councils.
