FCT Development Control Approved 1,422 Building Plans In 2023

…Generates ₦2.5 Billion, Creates 13,873 Jobs

The Department of Development Control approved a total of 1,422 various categories of building plans in the Federal Capital Territory in year 2023.
The FCT Director of Development Control Department, TPL. Mukhtar Galadima, made this known during the 2023 Annual Get-together and Staff Awards Night held in Wuse District, Abuja.
Galadima, who was impressed with the performance of the Department in the outgoing year, revealed that a total sum of ₦2,534,673,850.08, which represents 65 percent of the 3,700,000,000,00 revenue target for this year was generated from January to October 2023.
He said that the Department set up a One-Stop Vetting Team to treat backlog of files, facilitate and Fast-track building plans approval for plots within serviced areas.
According to him, the Department also established Regional Offices to decentralise Monitoring and Enforcement activities in the Area Councils and Satellite Towns.
His words: “We also inaugurated committee on the prevention of building collapse in the FCT to proffer modalities and institutional frame work to avert building collapse in the Territory.”
“Furthermore, the Department inaugurated a Post Development Audit pilot scheme at Dawaki,” he added.
The Director noted that as a result of building plan approval granted and construction works at the various sites, the activities of the Department has helped to create a total number of 13, 873 direct and indirect jobs.
Galadima said that the jobs are created at different stages of construction inspected by the Building Inspectorate Division of the Department.
He was particularly delighted with the presence of some past Directors and leaders of the Department, who attended the event, and assured that the Department will continue to ensure orderly development in line of the Territory within the precincts of the provisions of the Abuja Master Plan.
Galadima stated that staff welfare will continue to receive priority attention, and therefore, enjoins staff to put in their best and ensure that the mandate of the Department is achieved.
He remarked that in 2024
the tempo of development will increase as a result of the administration intolerance to land speculation.
The department will ensure efficient process and reduction of time for granting Building Plan Approval, increase revenue generation and
Stimulate developments.
