Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen says he wants to lift the AFCON trophy and bring smiles to scores of their Nigerian fans.

Osimhen will spearhead the Super Eagles attack in Cote d’Ivoire as they look to dethrone Senegal as African champions.

Speaking ahead of the continental premier tournament, Osimhen said the Super Eagles are capable of winning the title, adding that the AFCON showpiece is a perfect opportunity to restore their pride.

The 25-year-old Serie A-based striker with Napoli reflected on the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign which he said the fans played a crucial role in backing them.

“We could not have asked for more from our supporters in Abuja that night,” said Osimhen.

“They roared us on from the first whistle to the last. The noise they created was deafening. but we let them down and that hurt. Nigerians deserved better.”

While they failed to qualify for the global tournament in Qatar, Osimhen and his teammates now turn their sights to the AFCON trophy and want all the glory.

“We are capable of winning this tournament because the squad is packed with players who are performing exceptionally well for their European clubs,” adds Osimhen.

“All of us are desperate to make up for failing to reach the 2022 World Cup. The only way we can achieve that goal is by winning the Cup of Nations.”
