Nigeria Maintains Dominance Over South Africa In AFCON Semi-Final

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have beaten arch rivals South Africa in a penalty shootout to advance to the final of the 2023 AFCON.

In a nerve wracking encounter, the Super Eagles stood their ground to win 4-2 at the Bouke Stadium on Wednesday night.

The match was dead-locked at 1-1 after 90 minutes after Nigeria opening the scoring thanks a 67th minute penalty by William Troost-Ekong.

Teboho Mokoena then stepped up to equalise from the penalty spot in the 90th minute.

Extra-time provided no goals, sending the tie to penalties.

Nigeria showed their mettle, winning the lottery of the penalty shootout 4-2.

The Super Eagles will take on the winner of the second semi-final between hosts Ivory Coast and DR Congo in the final on Sunday, 11 February.

Bafana Bafana will play the loser of the second semi-final in the third-place playoff 24 hours earlier.
