FEMA, MTN To Partner On Disaster Management

The FCT Emergency Management Agency,(FEMA), has appealed to MTN Nigeria Communications PLC for technical and infrastructural support on emergency management.
The Acting Director-General of FEMA Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim Sabo, made the appeal when he led the management team of FEMA on a courtesy visit to MTN Nigeria Communications PLC office in Abuja.
Sabo informed that FEMA requires the support of MTN in the area of information and telecommunication, particularly in the remote parts of the FCT.
“We have volunteers, vanguards, divers in remote communities and would appreciate training sessions for FEMA staff on deploying technology in the management of disasters,” he said.
Canvassing support on public awareness, Sabo urged the communication company to assist FEMA in disseminating information on preparedness and safety awareness through SMS on its extensive network.
On the community engagement initiative, Sabo urged FEMA to sponsor Town Hall meetings on emergency management.
He also called for the development of mobile applications tailored towards emergency management and the issuance of closed user groups (CUG), to the Agency.
Responding, the Head of Sales and Trade Development MTN, Mr. Ohwofasa Obazenu, pledged the commitment of MTN to partner with FEMA.
He said that the focus of the company this year is on the SDG goals; noting that FEMA’s request falls within the goals.
“We will partner with you. We will look at our budget and our focus for the year,” Obazenu assured.
Abuja Digest reports that MTN also called for a cordial and mutually beneficial relationship with FEMA.
