FCTA Enrolls Vulnerable Pregnant Women Into Health Insurance Free

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has vowed to end maternal and infant mortality in FCT, as it enrolls vulnerable pregnant women into the Health Insurance Scheme free of charge.

Accordingly, it is Administration intends to forbid any pregnant woman to die through the cause of pregnancy or process of delivery in and around the Federal Capital Territory.

The FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, who spoke during an Enrollment and Sensitization Campaign against Maternal Mortality said the campaign is aimed at improving healthcare delivery to the ordinary residents of the Territory.

The Minister of State said the Administration is using the forum for the delivery of Kits and enroll vulnerable pregnant women into the Health Insurance Scheme free of charge.

According to her, it is a pilot initiative in consonance with the President Bola Tinubu’s Administration goals.

She said that the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Initiative of the present Administration; adding that the FCT Administration is sensitive to the health needs of the people in line with the Universal Basic Health Care Provisions (UBHCP).

The Minister of State, who was represented by her Chief of Staff, Dr. Abdullahi Kauran-Mata, reiterated that the enrollment of pregnant women and vulnerable persons free is aimed at catering for the needs.

Mahmoud remarked that the Health Insurance gives access to Basic Healthcare needs of enrollees at a subsidized rate in line with Universal Basic Health Care Provision and that the FCT Administration will not leave any stone unturn in ensuring UBHCP is achieved in FCT.

Her words: “The FCT Administration under the leadership of the Minister of FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike, will ensure the revitalization of Primary Health Care facilities in terms of geographical and functional accessibility to accommodate both the organized formal sector enrollees of FHIS as well as key into every avenue to bring the informal sector on board to also benefit”.

Also speaking at the event, the Secretary, FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES), Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, said it is “an abomination and forbidden henceforth for any pregnant woman to die in the FCT” because adequate measures are put in place to prevent that.

She announced the free distribution of Sterile Delivery Kits to pregnant women at the occasion.
