Residents of the Federal Capital have been assured of steady supply of potable water.
Acting General Manager, FCT Water Board, Daniel Saka Audu gave this assurance during celebration of this year’s World Water Day on Friday at the Board’s Headquarters in Area 3, Garki I District, Abuja.
Audu said: “Permit me to state at this juncture that the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyeson Wike, is commited to ensuring that more residents of the FCT have access to clean Water.”
“In line with this, the FCT Water Board recently engaged in ‘Operation Check the Valves’ in which the Area Managers were directed to ensure that all the valves in their Area Offices are functional to allow free flow of water to the residents,” he said.
His words: “The Office of the General Manager constituted a Special Task Team to monitor water Supply to the City, which has improved the daily supply of water to the City center and its environs. Similarly, the Greater Abuja Water Works if (when) completed will expand the coverage and consequently access.”
Continuing, Audu said: “As custodians of water resources in the Federal Capital Territory, the Board wishes to reaffirm its commitment to equitable access to water by ensuring that water gets to where ever it is designed to get to within the reticulated Areas of the FCT.”
“As we celebrate the World Water Day, let us renew our commitment to sustainable water management. ‘Water is life’ and its responsible use is crucial for a sustainable future. Let us work together to ensure access to clean water for all, protect water ecosystems and promote water security world wide”, he advised.
Speaking on the theme: ‘Water For Peace’, the GM stated that water was “a universal symbol of purity and serenity…..without boundaries”; adding that the Board was celebrating “not just the life-sustaining essence of water, but also its pivotal role in fostering harmony and tranquility among communities and nations,”
He stated that the essential resource “flows seamlessly, transcending geographical divides and cultural differences. Water is a common denominator as whether white, black, Caucasian or Hispanic, we require it.”
The GM appreciated all partners of the Board and solicited more support from existing and new partners to continue to serve the teaming population of the FCT.
Abuja Digest reports that every 22nd of March is earmarked as World Water Day by the United Nations to celebrate this essential resource and draw attention to the importance of freshwater, as well as advocate for sustainable management of freshwater resources.
