Nigeria continued its good run at the African Games as Ese Brume leaped to gold in the women’s long jump event with a leap of 6.92 meters to defend her title in Accra, the Ghanaian capital on Thursday night.

She won the title in 2019 in the Moroccan city of Rabat and continued her fine form five years later in Ghana.

Brume’s first attempt however was good enough for gold on the night as none of the others could match it.

Meanwhile her compatriot Prestina Ochonogor also won the bronze medal. She had a jump of 6.67m.

Also, It was a one-two finish for Nigeria in the women’s discus throw final as the duo of Obiageri Amaechi and Chioma Onyekwere claimed the gold and silver medals, respectively.

Amaechi dug deep with her final attempt, achieving a throw of 58.93 metres, a new personal best (PB), to win the gold medal for Nigeria at the UGH Legon Stadium on Thursday.

The 25-year-old, who won the bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, was joined on the podium by compatriot Onyekwere, the gold medallist at the Commonwealth Games, whose fifth attempt in Thursday’s final helped her clinch the silver medal after a throw of 58.03m.
