The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed the dates for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) to be held in Morocco.

The announcement came after the CAF Executive Committee meeting in Cairo on Friday.

The 2025 AFCON will kick off on December 21, 2025, and run until January 18, 2026, while the 2025 WAFCON will commence on July 5, 2025, with the final match taking place on July 26.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe said that this scheduling is designed to fit in with the broader international and domestic football calendars, according to a CAF statement.

‘“The announcement of the dates of the CAF TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025 took much longer than expected, as there were complex and at times challenging discussions with various interested parties, in the light of the extensive International and Domestic Match Calendars,” he said.

The selected dates primarily aimed to avoid a clash with the FIFA Club World Cup, which will take place in the United States from June 15 to July 13, 2025, with an expanded 32-team format.

Motsepe expressed his confidence in Morocco’s potential to organize successful, word-class tournaments. “I am confident that the CAF TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025 will be extremely successful and will be the best AFCON in the history of this competition.”

He also lauded the “enormous growth” of women’s football in Africa, saying that he expects the WAFCON Morocco 2024 to be “immensely successful.”
