To further strengthen security in the Federal Capital Territory, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike has donated 50 operational vehicles to all security agencies in the nation’s capital.
Accordingly, some of the agencies that benefitted include the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Department of State Security Services, as well as the three arms of the Nigerian Military.
Making the donation, Friday in his office, the Minister charged all the agencies to only use the vehicles for security purposes, berating conversion of operational vehicles into personal use by some security heads.
Wike stressed that because security of lives and property of all Nigerians was a top priority of President Bola Tinubu, his administration was determined to securing the Territory for residents to go about their businesses day and night.
He explained that the current FCT Administration was not only constructing roads, but was also taking the issue of security, education and others seriously.
“We are now talking about a key factor of security. Any government that has not secured lives and property has no business in government. Mr. President has made it a priority, and who is better positioned than the security agencies to do the job. But it is our responsibility to provide them with the necessary tools to do their work, if we don’t do it, it will not be possible for them to do their job,” he said.
Wike, thus, appealed to Nigerians to always support and encourage the security personnel, highlighting that security personnel go through sleepless nights and difficulties, including loss of lives, for us to be safe and sleep with our eyes closed.
Earlier, the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud hailed Wike for focusing on security; describing it an important part corporate responsibilities of government.
She said: “We are deeply grateful to you for your focus in restoring hope to the people, and your style of leadership.
“These vehicles will serve as testament to our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our personnel and the residents, at large,” she added.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiary security agencies, FCT Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh, thanked the FCT Minister for the vehicles and “all he’s been doing in the FCT to make sure security of lives and property is guaranteed.
Represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Kayode Ojapinwa, the CP assured: “We are promising you today that we are going to make intensive use of these vehicles”.
