Engage Your Kids During Holidays; FCTA Enjoins Parents

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has called on parents in the nation’s capital to engage their children and wards positively, especially during school holidays.

Director, Education Resource Centre (ERC), Mrs. Neemat Daud Abdulrahim, made this call during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Summer Children Holiday Literacy programme at No. 2, Gwani Street, City Library Conference Hall, Zone 4, Wuse I District, Abuja, Thursday.

Abdurahim said that the summer holiday programme was organized by the City Library, under the umbrella of Education Resource Centre (ERC), which is aimed at building and promoting the entrepreneurship skills and other intellectual activities among children during school holidays.

The Director reiterated that parents should note the decrease in moral decadence in the contemporary society and engage them more on programmes that could build their future.

Abdurahim said that the theme of this year programme is “Enhancing Children’s Capacity Through Steam Education,” targeted among others, at building the inherent talents of a child, develop innovative and entrepreneurship skills among children during holidays which tends to disengage them from negative life style.

The Director emphasized that the programme which is tagged: “Books Enlightens And Reading Helps Us Grow (BEARHUG),” comprises activities that can build a child and change their notion for a better future.

She said BEARHUG programme that began since 2010 has impacted positively in the lives of many children, because some of the programmes which includes: reading competition, poem citation, practical presentation of innovations among others, has build a lot of children, especially in choosing their career.

Speaking, one of the parents whose children attended the programme, Alhaji Yahaya Abdulwahab, expressed gratitude to the FCT Administration, for providing this opportunity to the children.

He called on other parents to engage their children in intellectual programmes for the good of the society.

Abdulwahab revealed that some of his children that have been part of the programme for over 4 years have been influenced by the knowledge acquired from the programme by performing excellently and exceptionally in their schools.

One of the children who also spoke to Abuja Digest, Andrew Miracle Precious, stated that BEARHUG Programme has influenced her positively on many aspects, especially in academic and entrepreneurship realms.
