The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has demolished over 50 illegal structures in Gosa, Lugbe and Apo Tarfi, majorly in the Phase V of the Federal Capital City.

Director, FCT Department of Development Control, Mr. Mukhtar Galadima, made this disclosure, while leading a demolition squad to remove another set of ten illegal buildings in Sabon Lugbe also part of the Federal Capital City, Phase V, on Thursday.

According to him, the affected structures did not have necessary development approvals and therefore, they have go down.

His words: “This is in continuation of the Department’s reinvigorated enforcement exercise targeted at mitigating land use contraventions, especially in notorious land grabbing spots in Lugbe, Idu Train Station, Gosa, Kyami and Apo Tarfi.”

“We are here for removal exercise today at Sabon Lugbe South west area, which is part of the Phase V of the Federal Capital City (FCC). We just started with about 10 structures, but tomorrow, we are coming back in full swing,” he added.

He recalled that sometimes back, “we warned that we are going to bounce on land grabbers. So this is in continuation of the enforcement exercise, which had started. We want to inform the general public that for any person to buy any property in Abuja, please ensure that it is a rightly titled property with approved development plan, but failing to do so, you could fall into the hands of these land grabbers, and please don’t blame the FCTA.”

The Director stated that unsuspecting public was being deceived into believing that they would be made part of the new Phase V.

“The people, who are deceiving them that they are going to be integrated into the Phase V of the FCC should be warned and bewared. There is nothing like integration. Illegality is illegality, and we will continue to be removing them” he vowed.
