The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is embarking on massive construction of roads in the rural communities to boost agriculture and provide easy access for farm products to markets.

Thus, the projects are designed and implemented in consonance with the aspirations of the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Administration.

FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, stated this during the flag-off construction of Pai-Gomani road in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Tuesday.

The Minister restated that the construction of the road would boost agriculture, facilitate easy transportation of farm produce to the market.

Wike, who noted that the 15.5 kilometre Pai-Gomani road was the most touching of all flag off ceremonies he has embarked upon since Monday, warned against delay in issuing certificates for payment as soon as the work is done to fast-tract completion of the project in less than 12 months.

He said that President Bola Tinubu did not appoint him to allocate land but to improve infrastructure of the Territory both in the City Centre, Area Councils, Satellite Towns and rural communities; reiterating President Tinubu’s pledge that every Area Council would be impacted by the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’.

His words: “I took the position to support Mr. President to improve on the infrastructure of the FCT and that is why everyday our concern is infrastructure, infrastructure, and infrastructure; be it in the city; be it in the rural areas”.

Making case for the construction of A2-Pai road, the Minister said: “While we were coming from the expressway, called A2 to Pai, they refused to award that contract but instead awarded the contract from Pai to Gomani”.

“Now, if you construct the road from Pai to Gomani, how do you come to Pai, when that road is not motorable. Whoever masterminded this, you are not being fair, and we cannot continue this way. The truth must be told at all times,” he said.

To address the issue, Wike who expressed disappointment over the wrong decision, said that he had made contact for virement to construct A2-Pai road as an emergency project.

He continued: “We are all humans. How will these people feel that you are passing their community and there is no road, and after passing their community you awarded a contract for construction of another road?

Also speaking at the flag off, Senator David Jimkuta, stated that the road would connect the Area Councils to the City Centre.

Jimkuta pledged the continued support of the Senate to the FCT Minister’s efforts to transform the Territory and improve livelihood for residents.

Earlier, Kwali Area Council Chairman, Danladi Chiya, thanked Wike for his support to the Area Councils, especially in infrastructural provision.

Chiya stated that the Councils were delivering some projects, because Wike was not interfering with their allocations.
