To ensure security of lives and property in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has distributed 50 operational vehicles to security agencies in the nation’s capital.
Distributing the vehicles in Area 11, Garki I District, Abuja, on Thursday, the Minister noted that security was key and a responsibility of all.
Wike stressed that all the roads he was constructing, and the schools he was renovating, if there was no security, people would not be able to use them; expressing gratitude to members of the National Assembly for supporting and making provisions for the projects.
His word: “Security is for all of us. Security is key. Without provision of funds in the budget, it would not have been easy for us to do these, because all the roads we are doing, the schools, people have to be alive before they can use them.”
Wike recalled that his Administration had distributed fifty operational vehicles about three months ago, bringing the total to 100; declaring that there was improvement in security in the FCT.
The Minister charged the six Area Council Chairmen to engage stakeholders, even as he commended the security agencies and urged them to use the vehicles judiciously.
Speaking against land grabbing in the FCT, Wike vowed to “stop any body who thinks he can take over land that has not been given to them and heavens will fall”.
Speaking earlier, the Director, Department of Security Service, FCT, Adamu Gwary, stated that the Minister was touching areas of security that have never been touched before, including organized vigilante and hunters group who complement efforts of the conventional security agencies.
Gwary revealed that the Minister has built 12 new Police Divisional Headquarters in the Area Councils, and has concluded arrangements to begin construction of units of 6-man block of flats across the Territory for officers on duty.
FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, while speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries promised they would use the vehicles to boost security in the Territory by strengthening response time and increasing visibility.
