FCTA Approves Accreditation For 125 Schools

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has approved the accreditation of 125 schools across the six Area Councils of the Territory.
The Mandate Secretary, Education Secretariat, FCTA, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, made this disclosure in his office, while addressing the School Proprietors after the presentation of Certificates to the Schools that got the accreditation.
The Mandate Secretary said that the essence of the accreditation is to continue to preserve the standard of education and, therefore, charged Proprietors to ensure that the standards are consistent with what is required.
Hayyo, who enjoined the school Proprietors to complement the effort of the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, led Administration in uplifting the standard of education, said the era of unaccredited school existence is far gone, thus Proprietors must do the needful in complying with the government directives.
The Mandate Secretary disclosed that out of the 125 schools that were accredited, 105 of them were granted full accreditation, while 20 schools were accredited on the basis of probation, because they could not meet up with all requirements as required by the FCTA.
The Mandate Secretary further charged the Proprietors to support the government’s effort in fighting those who are impinging on the set target of FCT education.
He reiterated that the FCT Administration will not relent in ensuring that the quality education is attained.
His words:”We must be united in protecting the standard of education in FCT. We are partners and we should remain so in progress. Let’s cooperate and sternly follow the rules.”
The Education Secretary, therefore, urged the Proprietors to justify the certificate issued to them by the FCT Administration by ensuring that the quality and standard of education is well preserved; stressing that “to whom much is given, much is expected”.
He emphasized that the schools receiving accreditation certificates were duly assessed based on the criteria and some of them include: Aduvie International School, Jahi District (Private); Ansar-ud-Deen International School, Maitama District, (Private); Astute Montessori Schools, Kuje (Private); Glisten International Academy, Jahi District (Private).
Others are: Glowing Ages Academy, Kaura District (Private); Government Secondary School, Garki (Government); Government Secondary School, Byazhin-Kubwa (Government); Junior Secondary School, Yimi (Government); Loyola Jesuit College, Gidan Mangoro (Private); Noble Guide Academy, Kubwa (Private) among others.
The Head of Accreditation Division, Department of Quality Assurance, FCTA, Mrs. Rukaiyat Inuwa, who also spoke at the occasion, revealed that the criteria considered in the approval were: registration with the department of Quality Assurance, registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), standard facilities, adequate physical structures, adequate staff strength, among others.
Inuwa, who advised the Proprietors to sustain the standard that the monitoring team met on ground as at the time the assessment process was on-going, maintained that the full accreditation granted is accompanied by huge responsibilities ahead.
Responding on behalf of the Proprietors, Vice Principal Academics, Loyola Jesuit College, Gidan Mangoro, Abuja, Sr. Gloria Okoh, promised to cooperate and comply with the directives of the government in order to achieve the set goals in the FCT education sector.
