GSS Gwagwalada Strengthens Student Development Through Sports

Government Secondary School (GSS), Gwagwalada, reaffirmed its commitment to student development through sports as it successfully hosted the 29th Inter-House Sports Competition.
Speaking at the annual event, the Principal of the school, Victor Orifah said, the 29th inter house of the school provided a platform for students to showcase their athletic talents while fostering essential values of teamwork, resilience, discipline and fair play.
He emphasized the role of sports in shaping students’ character and preparing them for future challenges.
The Principal echoed the words of Nelson Mandela, stating, “Sport has the power to change the world which has power to inspire and power to unite people in a way that little else does.”
Orifah also took the opportunity to commend the FCT Minister , Barr. Nyesom Wike for his remarkable strides in the education sector, particularly through the accelerated renovation and reconstruction of schools across the Territory.
He expressed deep appreciation to the Secretary for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo.and Dr Sani Ladan, FCT Secondary Education Board respectively for their unwavering commitment to educational excellence in the FCT.
According to him, under their leadership, schools have witnessed significant improvements in infrastructure, student welfare and academic standards.
In his address, the Director/Secretary, FCT Secondary Education Board, Dr Sani Ladan commended the principal and staff for remaining committed to holistic education where academics and extracurricular activities complement each other to produce well- rounded individuals.
Also speaking, chairman of the occasion, Rev Jesse Washington Abasiene said beyond academics, sports play a crucial role in developing the students, equipping them with skills necessary for leadership and lifelong success.
The chairman commended the school management for positively impacting the students in all aspects.
The colourful event which featured field and track events, drew students, teachers,parents, principals,traditional rulers and guests featured an exciting lineup of activities which included march pass won by Katampe house.
The event concluded on a high note, with the best-performing house of WOPA emerging overall winner, followed by Zuma and Katampe houses for second and third positions respectively.
