Children Holiday Workshop: FCTA Trains 150 Students

To ensure that school children on long vacation are kept busy, the Federal Capital Territory Administration has organized a workshop for the adolescent children to learn a skill.
Accordingly, over One hundred and Fifty students, who enrolled participated in the programme.
Skills such as Painting & Drawing, Fashion designs &
Sewing, Hair Making, Crafts, Cuisine, Tie and Dye were impacted on the participants.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the workshop, the Mandate
Secretary, Social Development Secretariat, Ibrahim Aminu, said that the
theme of the workshop “Culture and Human Development” is very vital and
apt in “our collective aspiration to attain Sustainable Growth and Human Capital
Development, keying into the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President.”
The Mandate Secretary said the Administration decided to organize the workshop to meaningfully engage school age holiday makers in the Federal Capital
Territory in a more positive venture.
His words: “ We have organised a weeklong Holiday Workshop for the school
children on long vacation, to teach and impact them with various skills
acquisition.
The initiative is aimed at engaging the Children and the Youth with economically
viable lifelong skills that will develop them into becoming income earners,
mentors to other Children and self reliance at a tender age as well as engaging
their minds from being idle thus becoming available to crimes, drug abuse and
other delinquencies associated with adolescence.”
He said, it is the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to re-position Nigeria amongst
its equals in the comity of Nations, which can be attained through a united Nigeria
where children, the youth and indeed every citizen regardless of tribe and
religion can come together to learn with a view to building
a legacy that will contribute to sustainable future.
“With what I have seen
in this workshop of just 5 days, I am more assured that a new Nigeria is indeed possible,” he said.
Congratulating the children for their zeal and passion during the workshop, Aminu assured that the FCT
Administration through the Secretariat will continue to invest in such programmes, geared towards the mental growth and development of the children.
The Director-General, National Orientation Agency, Lanre Issa Onilu, who was represented at the occasion by the
Director, Mass Education, Mrs. Theresa Maduekwe, expressed satisfaction with
the products turned out by the participants on display at the event.
He said that the Agency will support the 2025 edition of the workshop.
Meanwhile, the Cultural Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy, Mr. Li Xuda in
a goodwill message, commended the FCTA for this laudable initiative.
